Definition:
Seperation of the hoof wall from the sole along the white line. As the condition spreads along the bearing edge, it becomes a „detached wall“.
Cause:
Nails that are too hard or too close to one another. Frequent washing or wet weather.
Symptoms:
A curve in the hoof wall, a hollow ring when tapped. The hollow cavity contains mainly loose, crumbly or sticky masses of horn substance susceptible to decay and may cause lameness. The distal phalanx may be in danger of rotating or dropping as in the case of laminitis.
Treatment:
A hollow or loose wall can only heal with new growth of knitted fresh horn. That’s why an affected horse shouldn’t be shod for a while. In the case of a detached wall, the loose section has to be removed. DALLMER Hoofshoes are easy on the white line so that the hoof can recover.
